Who are we?

Sabina Skupien, LCPC
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

Sabina received her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Clinical Child and Family Psychology from Roosevelt University. She completed her clinical training in an inpatient setting at Chicago Children’s Center for Behavioral Health at Saint Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center and later worked as a Program Therapist in their child/adolescent units. Additionally, she worked as an Inpatient Child and Family Therapist and Social Worker at the AMITA Health Behavioral Medicine Institute before transitioning into a private practice setting.

Along with her studies, Sabina is committed to improving mental health in her own community and has volunteered at a crisis hotline for a number of years. She has provided individual, group, and family therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults in need of inpatient and outpatient stabilization, primarily utilizing evidence-based interventions. Sabina has experience working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, peer relationships, self-esteem, life transitions, job stress, and trauma.

As an integrative therapist, Sabina utilizes both person-centered and directive approaches such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She strives to provide a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where insights into clients’ strengths and values can surface. Additionally, she hopes to help find solutions to challenges that may be inhibiting clients’ personal growth. In therapy, Sabina is often reminded of a children’s song: “We can’t go over it, we can’t go under it, we’ve got to go through it!” Sabina understands that starting therapy may be a scary prospect, but she is here to walk you through it.

Sabina invites you to work together to create a safe, supportive, and therapeutic relationship, which can allow for new growth and development. She hopes to create a space for clients where pain can be shared, understood, and integrated; one where joy can emerge once again. She knows that at times, we may struggle to cope with chaos, confusion, and transitions in everyday life. Whether you’re a teen or an adult, it takes courage and vulnerability to take a deeper look within yourself and make changes. Sabina’s goal is to listen to you, learn from you, and to become a fellow traveler who can be by your side as you navigate through your experience.
